Character Summary

Former judge Ethan Wallace became Dominion City's living sentence after law failed his family, wielding the truth-compelling Verdict Gauntlet and a gavel reforged as the Judgement Blade.

Biography

Final Verdict measures wrongdoing through the five-level Vengeance Scale. His legal mind and discipline make the doctrine coherent; his grief over Lilly makes it dangerous.

Canon history

Backstory

Ethan Wallace was raised by civil-rights attorney Richard Wallace and teacher Helen Wallace to believe that justice was a public trust. He became one of Dominion City's youngest judges and built a family with Mariam, a GEB scientist and field operative whose empathy challenged his certainty.
At a Judd Metrology fundraiser for underprivileged children, Tiberius Dravos returned as Dravenloc to punish the judge who had damaged his criminal power. When Dravenloc aimed at a child, Lilly stepped between them and died before help could reach her. The public murder destroyed Ethan's faith that correct procedure guaranteed meaningful consequence.
Ethan left the court and converted its symbols into weapons. His gavel became Lex Talionis, the Judgement Blade. The Verdict Gauntlet exposes concealed guilt and can compel confession through contact. Caleb Vex, his former bailiff and oldest friend, became the Skull Enforcer and the executor behind Ethan's sentences.
Mariam refused to accept Lilly's death and performed a forbidden resurrection ritual connected to the Inferno Crucible and Aurelian Dravos. Lilly returned carrying a demonic curse. Ethan's mission changed again: Final Verdict still hunts Dravenloc and Dominion's criminal systems, but he must also free his daughter without condemning the person she became after death.
The Vengeance Scale gives Ethan a rule for every offender, from the misguided to the irredeemable. It also lets him disguise personal certainty as law. Redemption remains the one person who can force him to confront that distinction, making their marriage the moral battlefield at the center of Dominion City.

Origin

Lilly Wallace died protecting a child during Dravenloc's attack on a Judd Metrology charity fundraiser. Ethan resigned from the bench, forged his judicial gavel into the Judgement Blade, earned the Verdict Gauntlet, and formed a secret judge-and-bailiff pact with Caleb Vex, the Skull Enforcer.

Powers

  1. 01Peak human conditioning

Ethan combines disciplined strength, endurance, martial arts, knife work, and urban tactical training.

  2. 02Legal and forensic mastery

Years on the bench let him reconstruct motive, identify procedural weakness, and question a suspect with the precision of a trial.

  3. 03Verdict Gauntlet

Skin contact can expose hidden guilt, compel a confession, or inflict paralyzing pain. Its response depends on Ethan's conviction and is dangerous when grief distorts his judgment.

  4. 04Judgement Blade: Lex Talionis

A sword reforged from Ethan's gavel. It channels his certainty strongly enough to cut reinforced and supernatural barriers, but weakens when he doubts the sentence.

Equipment

  1. 01Verdict Gauntlet

A rune-marked truth and guilt artifact acquired during Ethan's post-tragedy pilgrimage.

  2. 02Judgement Blade

The physical remains of Ethan's old office transformed into the weapon of his new doctrine.

  3. 03Armored judicial coat

A discreet kevlar-lined combat layer designed for urban pursuit rather than display.

Weaknesses

  1. 01Pure human limits

Without the artifacts and preparation, Ethan can be wounded or killed like any other human.

  2. 02Moral absolutism

The Vengeance Scale creates consistency but can convert grief, incomplete evidence, or personal anger into irreversible judgment.

  3. 03The Wallace family

Mariam and Lilly are the reason he fights and the leverage most capable of breaking his discipline.
